Pyotr Andreyanov Signs 5-Year Deal in KHL

Columbus Blue Jackets’ 20th overall pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft, Pyotr Andreyanov, has signed a new five-year contract to remain in the KHL.

The decision to stay in Russia isn’t surprising—many young Russian prospects develop at home—but the length of the deal raised eyebrows. At just 18 years old, Andreyanov still has plenty of development ahead of him before he’s NHL-ready.

Ranked as NHL Central Scouting’s top goalie prospect in 2025, Andreyanov dominated the MHL last season with a 23–6–6 record, 1.75 GAA, and .942 save percentage.

The Blue Jackets’ crease is currently manned by Elvis Merzlikins (signed for two more seasons) and Jet Greaves (one year left). The system also includes 2024 second-rounder Evan Gardner, as well as past late-round picks Melvin Strahl (2023) and Sergei Ivanov (2022).

Andreyanov still projects as a future No. 1 goaltender, but the question for dynasty managers is: how long are you willing to burn a roster spot waiting?

I’m pushing Andreyanov into the third-round range of 12-team NHL rookie drafts—a high-upside stash for those willing to be patient and invest in what could become the backbone of the next Blue Jackets contender.
