Bulls’ Frontcourt Duo Dominates as Pacers’ Backcourt Shines
The Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers squared off in Summer League action Sunday, with standout performances on both sides of the floor. The Bulls ultimately came out on top, 114–105, thanks to big nights from their young forwards, while Indiana’s backcourt kept things competitive.
Buzelis and Essengue Power Chicago
Second-year forward Matas Buzelis led the way for Chicago with a dominant offensive performance, scoring 28 points on 57% shooting. He knocked down two threes and got to the line 13 times, showcasing his aggressive, versatile game. Buzelis also added 5 rebounds and a steal, though turnovers and fouls were an issue at times.
Rookie Noah Essengue was equally impressive, pouring in 21 points on 50% shooting and showing range with three made threes. He went a perfect 4-for-4 at the line and added 3 boards, looking comfortable in his role as a secondary scorer alongside Buzelis.
Furphy and Kam Jones Keep Pacers Close
For Indiana, Johnny Furphy turned in a solid two-way performance with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. The rookie showed his ability to finish through contact and make an impact defensively, flashing the potential that made him a first-round pick.
Kam Jones was one of Indiana’s most efficient scorers, putting up 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-for-5 from three. He added 6 assists and 3 steals, showcasing his scoring touch and playmaking ability while running the offense for stretches.
Scout's Take
For Chicago, seeing both Buzelis and Essengue playing aggressive, confident basketball is a great sign heading into training camp. Essengue, in particular, looks ready to carve out a role. For Indiana, Furphy and Kam Jones continue to develop into reliable contributors, giving the Pacers more depth and upside in the guard and wing spots.
