Holland’s Two-Way Impact, Lanier’s Shooting Lift Pistons Over Rockets
The Detroit Pistons rode a balanced effort and defensive intensity to a 98–83 Summer League win over the Houston Rockets, with Ron Holland II and Chaz Lanier standing out on both ends of the floor.
Holland continued to make his case as Detroit’s most impactful young player, scoring 15 points on 41.7% shooting while hitting 2-of-6 from deep. Beyond his scoring, Holland flashed his defensive chops, recording 3 steals and consistently pressuring Houston’s perimeter players.
Lanier complemented him with an aggressive offensive approach, scoring 14 points while knocking down 4 three-pointers despite shooting just 35.7% overall.
For the Rockets, Reed Sheppard struggled to find his rhythm. The rookie guard scored 18 points, but shot just 31.6% from the field and hit only 1-of-7 from three, while committing 6 turnovers. Sheppard did contribute 4 steals defensively, showing his instincts remain a plus even on an inefficient night.

Scout’s Take
Holland’s defensive versatility and intensity continue to shine, making him one of the more well-rounded prospects in Summer League. Lanier’s shooting, even on off nights, shows why he could carve out a 3-and-D role. For Sheppard, the rough shooting and turnovers are growing pains, but his defense still pops.
