Trending Now: 07/12/2025 - Michael Misa Top Six from Day One?

Michael Misa Could Fill Sharks’ Biggest Need Down the Middle

The San Jose Sharks have been busy this offseason, adding veteran talent on the wings through trades and free agency — but one glaring hole remains at center. And they may already have the answer.

Much of the offseason speculation in San Jose has centered on whether No. 2 overall pick Michael Misa will make the jump to the NHL this fall. Looking at the Sharks’ current roster, there’s certainly a spot waiting if he’s ready.

Misa projects as a natural center, though his versatility allows him to shift to the wing if needed. With the Sharks’ deep stable of wingers, that likely won’t be necessary right away — especially with the center depth chart in need of a boost.

Wings Stacked, Center Thin

San Jose loaded up on the flanks this summer, trading for rugged right winger Ryan Reaves and signing Philipp Kurashev to join Tyler Toffoli and Adam Gaudette. On the left, the newly signed Jeff Skinner brings scoring punch alongside young talents William Eklund and Collin Graff, plus veteran Barclay Goodrow.

Down the middle, though, is where the Sharks still lack depth. Macklin Celebrini, last year’s No. 1 pick, is penciled in as the top-line center. Behind him, Alex Wennberg is a capable middle-six option, and Ty Dellandrea and Zack Ostapchuk offer bottom-six depth — but no clear No. 2 center exists.

Enter Misa

That’s where Misa, the prolific scorer out of the OHL, could slot in immediately. His vision, playmaking, and high-end hockey sense make him a strong candidate to step right into the second-line center role, potentially centering a dangerous trio with Jeff Skinner and Tyler Toffoli.

If he makes the roster out of camp, he’s also a likely fit on the Sharks’ second power-play unit — with upside to graduate to the top unit as the season progresses.

Fantasy Impact

For fantasy and dynasty managers, Misa remains a speculative late-round pick for redraft leagues this summer. But given his talent and the opportunity in San Jose, he has the upside to be one of this year’s most impactful rookies if he sticks.

Misa may not just make the team — he may solve the Sharks’ biggest weakness in the process.
