Dynasty Stock Watch: Travis Hunter's Dual Role Already Taking Shape at Jaguars Mini-Camp

One of the biggest questions heading into the 2025 NFL season was where rookie Travis Hunter would line up for the Jacksonville Jaguars—offense or defense? Last month's mini-camp gave us a meaningful glimpse into the answer, and dynasty managers should take notice.

According to Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley, Hunter practiced at both wide receiver and cornerback during a single session. He began the day wearing the Jaguars’ teal offensive jersey before switching to a white defensive jersey for the final team period. Shipley noted this wasn't just symbolic; the practice was high-tempo with heavy reps for rookies and depth players, and Hunter got "plenty of meaningful snaps on defense despite being on offense for most of the day."

That last part may be the key to unlocking Hunter’s fantasy value—he was primarily on offense.

Before mini-camp, Hunter was hovering around WR11 on my SuperFlex rookie board. The uncertainty about his positional usage was a major concern—if he split snaps or leaned heavily into cornerback, his offensive fantasy output could be limited. But the way Jacksonville deployed him suggests the offensive role is the priority, with defense more of a supplemental usage or package-specific look.

As a result, I’ve moved Hunter inside the top 10 in my SuperFlex rankings and up into the top 5 in 1QB formats. The upside is simply too great to ignore if he's going to see consistent snaps as a wide receiver, especially given his elite athletic profile and playmaking ability.

Dual-role players are rare in the modern NFL, and even rarer in fantasy relevance. If Hunter's usage continues to trend toward an offensive-heavy workload with splash plays on defense, he could be a weekly X-factor in dynasty formats. We’ll continue to monitor his role through training camp, but early signs are encouraging: Travis Hunter looks more like a fantasy asset than a novelty.
