Jay Huff Traded to Indiana: A Quiet but Key Move for the Pacers
We previously covered the Indiana Pacers’ need for a big man this week, and they’ve wasted little time addressing it. On Saturday, Indiana acquired center Jay Huff from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a second-round pick and a pick swap.
Huff fills a critical hole on a Pacers roster that was otherwise poised to rely heavily on Isaiah Jackson returning to form and logging big minutes at center. While Jackson should still factor into the rotation, it’s hard to envision anyone other than Huff soaking up the most impactful minutes at the 5 for Indiana this season.
The 26-year-old Huff quietly put together an efficient season in Memphis, averaging 6.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks in under 12 minutes per game across 64 appearances. His per-minute production and rim protection stood out when given opportunities, and Indiana appears ready to give him a bigger stage.
Should You Put a Claim in for Jay Huff?
If the Pacers stand pat and don’t add another center before training camp, Huff will have a meaningful role to open the year. He’s already seeing a spike in fantasy interest, with managers adding him on Sleeper in anticipation of an expanded workload.
If you’re in need of big man depth, Huff is absolutely worth a speculative add and makes sense as a late-round flier in redraft formats. Dynasty managers shouldn’t rush to trade for him yet — there’s still risk Indiana brings in more competition — but it’s worth riding the early wave to see if Huff can seize and sustain the opportunity.
For now, consider him a priority waiver claim in deeper leagues and a name to monitor closely as the Pacers finalize their rotation.
