Trending Now: 07/05/2025 - Cam Whitmore Traded to the Wizards
Cam Whitmore Gets a Fresh Start in Washington
After years of waiting for an opportunity, Cam Whitmore may finally get his chance.
On Saturday, the Houston Rockets traded Whitmore to the Washington Wizards for two second-round picks — a modest return for a player Houston drafted in the first round just two years ago. Whitmore’s combination of size, athleticism, and defensive versatility has always intrigued both NBA teams and dynasty managers.
But in Houston, he never found meaningful minutes.
What We’ve Seen So Far
Whitmore’s NBA career has been limited by two main factors: a crowded rotation and an inconsistent offensive game.
He projects as a forward who can credibly guard 1–4 and even give headaches to some fives. On paper, his defensive profile makes him a valuable piece in today’s switch-heavy NBA. On the court, though, his lack of polish on offense kept him buried on Houston’s depth chart.
With the Rockets adding Kevin Durant and Dorian Finney-Smith to their forward rotation this offseason, Whitmore’s already-limited pathway to playing time disappeared entirely.
For both player and team, it made sense to move on.
Why Washington?
The Wizards are rebuilding and have minutes to offer. Their forward rotation is full of placeholders and developmental pieces, meaning Whitmore can finally get extended looks.
For fantasy purposes, this is a significant boost. Particularly in category leagues, his defensive stats and energy could become assets now that he’ll see the floor consistently.
Dynasty managers who’ve stashed Whitmore for this long will finally get a clearer picture of what he can become.
Dynasty Outlook
For managers who don’t already roster Whitmore, this trade is an opportunity — but not one to overpay for.
Dynasty advice:
- Don’t sell high just yet. If you’ve held Whitmore this long, you might as well see what he does with real minutes.
- Don’t overpay to buy. His opportunity is better now, but he’s still unproven offensively.
- I’d offer no more than a late lottery rookie pick (around 12th overall) at this stage.
- Swapping one of this year’s rookie point guards (not named Harper) for Whitmore feels fair, but still a little aggressive.
Personally, I’d start with a lower offer and see if the Whitmore manager is fatigued and ready to cash out.
Final Word
At just 21 years old, Cam Whitmore still has time to figure things out. And in Washington, he’ll finally get the chance to show whether he belongs in a fantasy lineup.
This is the moment dynasty managers have been waiting for.
Don’t miss it — but don’t overpay for it, either.
