Hawks Fall to Rockets as Toppin Leaves Early; Arms, Chandler Shine

The Atlanta Hawks dropped their latest Summer League matchup to the Houston Rockets, 120–111, in a game that featured standout performances — and an early exit for one of Atlanta’s hottest players.

Jacob Toppin played just 14 minutes before leaving early, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, plus 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Toppin had been a consistent presence through the Hawks’ first two games, posting 15 and 19 points, but his abbreviated night shifted the spotlight to Atlanta’s other young wings.

Nikola Đurišić stepped up with a strong all-around showing, scoring 16 points and handing out 7 assists while attacking the paint. Rookie Asa Newell also flashed his potential, contributing 14 points and 6 rebounds despite some foul trouble. Guard Kobe Bufkin led Atlanta’s offense with 25 points, including 4 threes, and added 6 rebounds and 3 steals, though turnovers (9) were an issue.

On the Houston side, it was the duo of Adonis Arms and Kennedy Chandler that stole the show. Arms delivered a complete performance, scoring 24 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing 7 assists while playing with high energy. Chandler matched him with 22 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals, running the offense confidently.

For the Hawks, the health of Toppin looms large, while Đurišić, Newell, and Bufkin continue to show why Atlanta invested in their development. For Houston, Arms and Chandler are making strong cases for NBA roster spots this fall with their versatile, high-level play.
