RESULTS: Darren Waller Waiver Wire Recap
Welcome to Results, where we follow up on players and situations previously covered in Tuesday’s Trends or Trending Now. This week’s focus: the waiver frenzy for Darren Waller.
The Situation
Just yesterday, Waller appeared in our Trending Now section after a surprising development:
➡️ He was traded from the New York Giants to the Miami Dolphins
➡️ This came after retiring last season, raising eyebrows—and waiver budgets—across dynasty formats.
Waiver Results Across My Leagues
Since the trade news broke, waiver runs have processed in many of my leagues. Waller has been a universal claim. Here’s how that played out by format:
32-Team Leagues
Waller is a blow-the-budget candidate.
In two separate 32-team leagues, I saw managers spend 100% of their FAAB to lock him up.
That’s aggressive—but not entirely irrational given the positional scarcity at tight end.
Standard 12-Team Formats
In more typical dynasty leagues, Waller is going for 20–25% of FAAB.
This seems about right, especially considering the current state of the TE landscape. Even a semi-productive Waller could be a weekly starter.
BestBall Leagues
This is where things get wild.
Even in 12-team BestBall formats, Waller is fetching upwards of 50% of FAAB.
Given the plug-and-play nature of BestBall and Waller’s boom potential, the bidding wars make sense.
My Own Results
I treated Waller as a priority target. In leagues where I had under 50% FAAB remaining, I spent it all. Unfortunately, that often wasn’t enough.
Out of 16 leagues where waivers have processed since the trade:
- ✅ I acquired Waller in 4
- 🏆 One of those adds was in a competitive 18-team BestBall format
Given the heat of the market, I’ll take that as a win.
Final Thoughts
Waller’s name might have cooled off for a while, but dynasty managers haven’t forgotten his ceiling. With a fresh start in a high-octane Miami offense, the gamble makes sense—especially in formats that reward upside.
He’s back on the radar. And if you missed out, keep your eyes open—because if he flashes early, the price will only climb.
